Butalbital is mainly prescribed for tension headaches, migraines, and related pain. It also helps relieve anxiety or agitation linked to these conditions.

How It Works

Butalbital depresses the central nervous system to reduce pain and muscle tension. Its sedative effects calm brain activity, easing headaches and symptoms.

Dosage and Administration

• Adults: 50-100 mg every 4 hours as needed, not exceeding 400 mg daily.
• Pediatrics: Not recommended under 12 years old.
  Tablets should be swallowed whole with water. Follow dosing instructions strictly.
  

Side Effects

Common: Drowsiness, dizziness, nausea, abdominal discomfort, rash.
Serious: Breathing difficulties, severe confusion, unusual behavior, seizures.

Warnings and Precautions

• High risk of dependence and abuse.
• Avoid alcohol and other CNS depressants.
• Use cautiously in pregnancy, liver/kidney impairment, and elderly patients.
• May interact with blood thinners, antidepressants, and sedatives.
  Avoid driving or heavy machinery after use.
